Cupar Amateur Musical Society Members Raise £1000 for Garden Project
Saturday, September 9th, 2006: Members of the Cupar Amateur Musical Society (CAMS) certainly struck the right chord on Saturday during a charity sponsored walk in aid of the town's proposed Douglas Bader Community Garden redevelopment.
Several dozen CAMS members swapped their more traditional treading of the boards to tread roads and lanes around Howe of Fife and raise approximately £1000 for the garden project.
A large group of intrepid walkers from the society, which has been holding shows in Cupar for over a century, were waved off from the local railway station by Dave Carstairs and Andrew Gold from the Bader Group.
In bright sunshine they weaved their way through Ceres den, headed for Craigrothie and on to Chance Inn, then passed through Cults and down the hill to Pitlessie for lunch. The intrepid walkers then followed the railway line back to Cupar via Springfield , supported in style by their excellent support team.
CAMS members celebrated their fundraising achievements by dining in style at the Little China restaurant in Cupar, where the owners generously donated a further £100 towards the Bader garden fund.
Douglas Bader Community Garden Project Manager Andrew Gold paid tribute to the walkers for their efforts and their support for the Duffus Park project. Mr Gold said: "Both Dave Carstairs and I were extremely impressed by the tremendous enthusiasm CAMS members showed us by organising the sponsored walk. It just goes to show how much the Bader garden means to local people."
Members of the musical society, who regularly take part in shorter length walks each summer "between shows," are now rehearsing hard for next February's production of "Annie Get Your Gun."
CAMS welcome new members and urges anyone with an interest to contact the secretary, Joan Wood, on 01334 654187 or visit the website http://caoc.mysite.orange.co.uk
