Bulb handover will see
Cupar in the pink

Friends of the Douglas Bader Memorial Garden group
secretary Susan Blake hands over the Bader tulip bulbs
to Alistair Barnard, Fife Council, Parks Development
Officer (East Fife).
22/11/05: Cupar should be in the pink next spring thanks to a generous donation of hundreds of bulbs from a community organisation in the town.
The Friends of the Douglas Bader Memorial Garden group, which is seeking to raise over £200,000 to redevelop the Duffus Parfk site, recently handed over 300 special tulip bulbs to Fife Council and Cupar in Bloom.
The unique Douglas Bader tulips will be planted in a prominent postion in the town this month, ensuring that residents and visitors to Cupar will be able to enjoy a feast of colour early next year.
It is the latest public gesture by the group to raise awareness of the Friends' fundraising efforts this month.
Following the recent Civic Reception in Cupar attended by Lady Bader, OBE, the group has raised almost £1,000 through the sale of the Bader bulbs at Leuchars airshow and at last weekend's Fife Garden Show in Glenrothes.
On Saturday (24 th ), group volunteers will be outside the Tesco store in Cupar selling the unique Bader tulip bulbs and raising money for the proposed redevelopment of the garden.
Friends committee member Ronnie Ferrans, from Cupar, said: "We decided to give Fife Council and Cupar in Bloom the bulbs to let the people of the town enjoy them in the spring.
"Hopefully when they flower, folk will also remember why they were planted and perhaps help our group's efforts in the future.
"We are a community group, and this handover is simply a way of us thanking the townsfolk for their great support."
Mr Ferrans has also urged shoppers to get behind the campaign when they visit Tesco on Saturday.
He said: "The suggested donation for five Bader bulbs is five for £3, and every penny will go towards the group, which is completely non-profit making.
"The tulips are late flowering and blushing pink, and Sir Douglas himself visited Amsterdam when the bulb was named after him around the 1970s."
Anybody who would like to offer their support to the group should contact group Secretary Susan Blake on 07746 749355 or via www.dbcg.org.uk.
