Free Tickets Handed Out !
A community group which is aiming to redevelop the Douglas Bader Garden in Cupar is handing out free tickets to a special film show celebrating National Lottery Day. The Friends of the Douglas Bader Memorial Garden group have organised a special showing of the WW2 ace's life story "Reach For the Sky" in a bid to increase awareness of the lottery and their campaign.
The show is among hundreds of events planned across the UK to help celebrate National Lottery Day on 5 th November. Organisers are hoping that the event, to be held at Elmwood College this Saturday starting 1.15 pm, might even prove to be Scotland's largest on the day.
As well as being treated to the Bader movie, those attending will be entertained by Cupar Piping Society members Tom Lorimer and John Rankin. There wil l also be special lottery merchandise giveaways, snacks and refreshments, and a raffle event featuring donated items from many businesses in the town. Group spokesman Ronnie Ferrans said: "The tickets are free because we wanted to thank townsfolk for their support. If we can get a capacity audience of over 300 then we could well go down as the largest event in the country." Organisers are asking those interested in attending to turn up on the day, phone 01334 652700, or apply via the website www.dbmg.org.uk to arrange tickets in advance.
Mr Ferrans continued: "Although it is fine for people to turn up on the day we would ask people to phone in advance so there is less chance of them being disappointed when we reach capacity."
Morag Wood, Co-ordinator of National Lottery Day, said: "National Lottery Day is all about celebrating the difference that Lottery funding has had in your local communities. With over £17 billion of funding raised for 200,000 good causes, The National Lottery has touched the lives of the majority of people in the UK. Research has shown that people would like to know more about where their Lottery money has gone and National Lottery Day is a great way to raise awareness of all the good things that have been achieved with Lottery funding. It is fantastic to see so many Lottery funded projects and venues joining in to thank Lottery players for their support."
