Airshow media preview on 8th September, 2005

Guest of honour Lady Bader is not only kindly supporting RAF Leuchars Airshow in this year of the sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War, but today launches a month of fundraising activities on behalf of the F riends of the Douglas Bader Memorial Garden in Cupar, Fife. Lady Bader's daughter, Mrs Wendy McCleave, accompanies her to RAF Leuchars.

That fundraising will include thousands of Douglas Bader tulip bulbs, at £3 for 5, and unique Bader posters being offered for sale at the following:-

Saturday, September 10th: RAF Leuchars Airshow, Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18th: Fife Council Garden Show, GlenrothesSaturday, September 24th: Tesco store, Cupar

The non-profit making Friends group was formed earlier this year to redevelop the Douglas Bader Memorial Garden in Cupar. The Garden had been earmarked for closure until local residents established partnerships with Fife Council, Fife Constabulary, RAF Leuchars, Kingdom Housing, Elmwood College and Cupar Community Council. Surveyor Neil Calder from Falkland has been commissioned to produce a scheme for an enabling garden accessible to wheelchair users with community rooms and lavatories.

Work is at the planning stage and full public consultation will take place to ratify the final design. The aim is to create a first-class attraction for the north-east Fife area, encouraging people from all backgrounds to visit the new garden.
